This year, our KS2 (Years 3-6) Spring Concert was inspired by the beautiful book We All Celebrate! by Chitra Soundar. The book highlighted the rich variety of celebrations around the world, showing how they brought people together through joy and unity. We have many difficult cultures in our school so this year for our Open Homework and Spring Concert, we wanted to embrace this theme of connection and cultural appreciation. The girls were invited to create something meaningful about a festival, celebration, or ritual that was special to them. The creativity and thoughtfulness they shared inspired us to shape the concert around the theme of celebration. The concert included a selection of poems and songs chosen to reflect this diverse range of traditions in our school.
The girls’ favourite song was Dance! By Robert T Gibson. It is an energetic song which involves all students singing in 3-part harmony, along with some complicated body percussion. The students enjoyed the opportunity to push their performance skills and perform complex rhythms as part of a larger ensemble. All students sang, with a clarinet solo from year 6 pupil, Oviya. In collaboration with senior school percussion ensemble, there were also various percussion performed, including vibraphone and djembe drums.
