Year 8 take part in an engineering challenge for Women in Engineering day
Sunday 30th June was Women in Engineering Day and to celebrate our year 8 students took part in a GDST engineering challenge. The students were told a radioactive meteorite had landed in the school grounds. They had to design and build a device to pick it up and move 2 metres to place in a box. They all given the same material but all had amazingly different ideas to tackle the challenge. With nearly all of them completing the challenge within the 2 minutes allowed. The final part of the challenge was a relay, they had to pass the meteorite over a 20 metres distance with each group doing 2 metres. Our girls completed this in just under 44 seconds! The overall winner from Sutton High was Maariya, Suri, Ottoline, Charlotte, Heer and Eunice, who’s idea was completely different from everyone else and required amazing teamwork and communication to complete the task, well done girls!
