Year 5 girls take part in the GDST Science Conference 2024
We were delighted to participate in this year’s GDST Science Conference, open to a select group of Year 5 students. The rain did not dampen our spirits as we marched past Buckingham Palace and through Green Park to reach the Royal Institution of Science.
We had a fun and informative time learning how to extract our own DNA and making necklaces in a real laboratory.
Our passion for science was fuelled by some PhD students who spoke about their research projects and the impact they hope to have on the world.
Our engineering skills were put to the test when we had to design a car to absorb the impact of a high speed collision and save a chocolate egg.
Finally, we enjoyed a display of scientific experiments that sent objects flying high into the air, made materials combust and covered a teacher in slime.
We can not wait to continue to pursue science in the future. Who knows what scientists will be studying when we grow up!
