Reception
Reception finished our Forest School learning adventures with the busiest session! The girls had asked our leader, Emma, for crafting, bog babies, laser quest, nature hunts and of course a fire and marshmallows! The girls had the best time and really made the most of all of the opportunities, following their own interests.
Year 1
Year 1 had a fabulous day last week going to RNLI Shoreham-on-Sea. We have been learning about the history of lighthouses, the geography of the coastline and how to stay safe at the beach. We had a tour around the lifeboat station and learned so many interesting facts! We then had lunch on the beach and did some paintings of the coastline using watercolours. We finished off the afternoon with an ice cream!
Year 2
Year 2 are out exploring! Not even the crazy British summer weather was going to dampen our spirits as we headed to The British Wildlife Centre.
Following on from our Science topic of animal lifecycles and our class books ‘Hodgeheg’ and ‘The Owl Who was Afraid of the Dark’, we headed out to see some real animals in action. We were in for a treat. There were hedgehogs, owls, wildcats, rats, mice and the elusive red squirrel, that some lucky girls were able to spot hiding in the trees. Jess the ranger filled our heads with lots of facts and information and the girls asked some great questions. They were, yet again, commended on their brilliant manners and behaviour -yeah! Fun was had by all.
Year 3
Y3 have been learning about the way germination takes place. They independently set up an experiment to compare the rates of germination of different types of beans and seeds. Some of the variables included: the amount of water, temperature and light. To their surprise, most of the beans and seeds did germinate and were very smelly in the process! They could see that the black eyed peas grew very quickly under the right conditions compared to the lentils. Overall the experiment showed us that in order for germination to occur, water and a source of heat have to be present. Light is also important, but this comes later when the seedlings develop leaves.
Year 4
Year 4 went to Hobbledown and met camels, meerkats, otters and some very lively goats, among many other animals. Some of them were even brave enough to stroke a cockroach! They also learnt how to use a bow and arrow, true Viking style.
Year 4 have been looking at birds nests in nature and had to bring to school materials to help sculpt a birds nest.

Year 5
It was a beautiful sunny day on Thursday 27th June when Year 5 visited the Sutton Ecology Centre in Carshalton, as part of their ‘Keen to be Green’ topic. They explored the beautiful hidden nature reserve, discovering the importance of recycling – including plants and vegetation to create compost. They competed in a relay-race of recycling rubbish and learned that polystyrene can NOT be recycled. After that, they used old paper to make their own sheets of new handmade paper and had fun using their imaginations to create their own ‘Recycling Robots’ out of recycled rubbish.
Year 6
On Wednesday 26th of June 2024, Year 6 went to see the musical, Wicked, at the Apollo Victoria Theatre. We sat in the dress circle, so our view was incredible.
Throughout the production, there was a variety of catchy songs which the whole audience enjoyed. Our favourites were ‘Popular’, and ‘Defying Gravity’. The actors were also outstanding singers and dancers. They all had a good sense of rhythm and time and were all coordinated.
The staging was exceptional, with a giant dragon on the top of the stage that breathed fire. The audience’s favourite was the rope that some of the characters flew across the stage with. Not only that, but the actors also climbed on bars, ladders, and many more high objects. This really brought the play to life. They also ran on high bridges, and quite literally, defied gravity.
Year 6 especially loved the flying monkeys. We really enjoyed all the comedy and ‘awkward’ parts on stage. We were all blown away by how elaborate the outfits were and how quickly they were able to change them. The whole story had been thought out so well and the number of plot-twists in it was astonishing. As the story went on, it all linked together with the play ‘The Wizard Of Oz’.
During the interval, we were gifted with an ice cream of our choice to eat while we watched the rest of the production. At the end of the show, we clapped harder than ever. It was truly an amazing performance and Y6 would definitely recommend watching it.

Prep Sports Day
Sports Day was a blast. We used team work, collaboration, resilience and focus!
‘We cheered each other on and worked in our houses always giving of our best,’ said Freya.
Alice loved getting four 1st place stickers as it made her feel so proud and happy. She knew that all of her hard work helped her House.
Saransa said, ‘Phew it was tiring – but it was worth it!’
Riley said that the last race made her appreciate how far she could run – great job Riley! Big shout out to Luna and Immie for running so fast and for all of the girls for great sportsmanship.
