“Two weeks ago, I attended Trust Office in my capacity as Sustainability Lead. There I was introduced to LEGO®! It seemed odd to be encouraged to play with so much plastic, but I learnt many wonderful things about the company that produces miniature bricks. For example, it’s one of the few toys that rarely make it to landfill as it’s constantly used, reused and passed down from generation to generation. Secondly, I learnt about LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY®, a concept which began as an experiential process designed for use in guided workshops to prompt dialogue and encourage reflection. The idea is to develop problem-solving skills by using our imagination. When it comes to Climate Change and issues surrounding it, the theory is that if we can break down big issues, and use bricks as metaphors for change, we might be able to help our students process huge and often abstract concerns.
If you have any spare LEGO® around the house, it would be very helpful here at Sutton. It will be looked after!” – Ms Southgate, Head of English (contact at: A.Southgate@sut.gdst.net)
