SHS Association
Welcome to the SHSA page! The SHSA brings together girls, alumnae, parents, staff, governors and all other friends and supporters.
We organise a series of annual events, including a Summer Fair, Parent Party, Winter Fair and Quiz Night. This is in addition to lectures, exhibitions and performances throughout the year. Everyone is welcome, and you can bring friends along too.
For current parents the SHSA meets bi-weekly with members of our Senior Leadership Team to share ideas and contribute to new initiatives in school. Many members also help at our Open Events, where they are on hand to answer any questions from prospective parents about life at Sutton High School.
Whatever your connection to our school, you have free and life-long membership of the SHSA (Sutton High School Association).

We recently celebrated in true style with our #1884BursaryFundraiser, marking Sutton High School’s 140th anniversary as part of the GDST (Girls’ Day School Trust) family. And wow – what a night! 💜 Parents, governors, alumnae, and the wider SHS community came together for an evening of fun, fundraising, and generosity.
Head Beth Dawson, set the tone for the evening with her opening speech on how bursaries can transform lives, while we had the pleasure of welcoming back alumna and bursary recipient Aletha Shepherd from the #Classof200 who shared her inspirational story.
Things got really exciting when MC & DJ Andrew Morris hosted the auction, including a hotly contested bidding war for the Cook’d by Helen Nathan dinner party – eight lucky people will get to enjoy a fabulous feast! The Wheelbarrow of Beer raffle was a crowd favourite raising over £800, and the lucky winner was none other than Mrs Sharma.
A massive thank you to our tireless sixth formers who welcomed guests and served throughout the night, the amazing Chartwells team for keeping everyone fed, our fab in-house catering team, the ever-brilliant Sutton High caretakers, and the wonderful staff volunteers Mrs James, Mr Essenhigh, and Mrs Griffin. ‘Craggy Islanders’ emerge triumphant in epic SHSA quiz battle
On Friday 12th January twenty-one intrepid parents and staff quiz teams battled it out in the school’s Lees Hall to win the coveted title of SHSA Sutton Quiz Champions 2024.
Parent teams the Craggy Islanders, Snow Idea, Risky Quizness and Winging it from Wimbledon faced off with SHS staff teams including Mr Chadwick’s Linguistic Legends, and Mrs Clarke’s 1884’s.
If you knew which female singer sang ‘White Flag’, who is Sachin Tendulkar or just how big Argentina is you’d have been in good company.
The evening kicked off with a quick fire round of global general knowledge questions posed by the Head’s PA and half of the amazing quizzing husband and wife duo, Clare Hayward and husband Graham.
Our catering team, Chartwells, hosted a delicious meal of traditional fish and chips at half time before the teams went on to battle it out for first, second and third place. The eventual winners were the formidable Craggy Islanders, closely followed by the SHS staff team, The Linguistic Legends and in third place, The Pesky Parents.
The evening raised an amazing £750 for the SHSA fund.
Thanks to all those who made the night a success.
SHSA Summer Fair 2023 raises over £11,000
We are delighted to report we raised almost £11,000 from the summer fair held in July. Thanks to all parents and the Sutton High community who took part and helped us to achieve this. The money raised will fund an outdoor gym for the girls. Watch this space for further updates.
SHSA Winter fair raises over £5000
Christmas came early to Sutton High with the SHSA winter fair raising over £5000 in the process.
Once again our amazing SHSA committee surpassed themselves with their hard work and dedication in building the Sutton High School parent community.
From inflatable assault courses to Santa’s grotto and from badge making to the hugely popular lucky dip tombola there was something to suit very taste. Our thanks go out to all of the parent volunteers and pupils who took time to donate or create their donations as well as our tireless Chartwells staff, Ceylon Curry Hut and Braai BBQ for their delicious waffles, pizza slices, curries and BBQ food.
The funds raised from this event will facilitate the purchase of a much anticipated life-sized 3D elements table for the Sutton High Science department.
Said Head, Beth Dawson, “What a fantastic event last Saturday’s winter fair was. We are over the moon and very grateful to the Sutton High community and the SHSA for their generosity. Thank you to everyone for giving up their time too. We can’t wait for the girls to see the new scientific elements table in the science department.”
As a token of gratitude both Mrs Dawson and Prep Head Ms Musgrove welcomed all of the parent volunteers back to school this week for a thank you breakfast.
