Useful tips and resources
Aquila Magazine – a monthly magazine
Whizz Pop Bang – a monthly magazine
The Week Junior: Science & Nature – a monthly magazine
Your ‘textbook’ is online, on Teams. The ‘Year 8 Big Science’ Team is organized into channels that cover each topic. Within these channels you will find all the resources used in the lessons, as well as extra videos to watch
Those magazines have websites too:
Aquila
Whizz Pop Bang
The Week Junior: Science & Nature
Other useful web-based resources include:
Seneca Learning – We’ll using Seneca in lessons, but you can explore it by yourself, too
BBC Bitesize KS3
Simple explanations and videos of some of the things you’ll study, as well as quizzes and interactive games
Finally, a great You Tube channel with lots of science videos is Crash Course Kids
What super curricular activities can KS3 students engage with at school?
STEM club – happens twice a week and runs all year. It’s a hands-on, activity-based club that covers all the STEM topics
In the ‘Year 8 Big Science’ team there will be a channel of ‘Stretch & Challenge’ activities, ranging from puzzles and poetry writing (!), to posing questions that require a bit of research
The Science Museum
The Natural History Museum
A couple more You Tube channels with slightly more in-depth videos definitely worth exploring:
Ted Ed – from the famous ‘Ted Talks’ people, science lessons in video form
Animated videos that cover just about every aspect of every science topic
