Year 2
On Thursday, 3rd October, Year 2 had an exciting trip to explore the stunning grounds of Gatton Park. The day began with a refreshing walk through the park, where we breathed in the crisp, fresh air and took in the beauty of the natural surroundings. We were eager to start our first challenge of the day, which involved a series of math-related activities designed to engage our problem-solving skills. Working in small teams, we set off on a mission to solve various clues, all part of a thrilling adventure to rescue a ‘kidnapped wild animal.’ The excitement of working together and racing against time added to the fun, and everyone was eager to contribute and help.
After a busy and fun-filled morning, we took a well-deserved break for lunch. Once we had finished eating, we were back on our feet, ready for more exploration. This time, we embarked on a guided walk around the park, where we discovered fascinating facts about different types of trees. We learned how to identify various species by their leaves, bark, and seeds, and even found out some surprising uses for certain trees in everyday life. It was amazing to see how much we could learn just by observing the natural world around us.
The final activity of the day was perhaps the most creative and enjoyable of all. We gathered around a shaded area and were given small blocks of clay to mould and shape into ‘tree spirits.’ To make our creations even more unique, we were encouraged to scavenge for natural materials from the ground, such as leaves, twigs, acorns, and moss. Everyone got really involved, and the results were fantastic! Some tree spirits had funny faces, while others looked mysterious or wise, blending beautifully into the trees where we placed them.
The weather couldn’t have been better—bright and sunny with a gentle breeze that kept us comfortable as we explored the park. It truly was a day to remember, filled with learning, teamwork, and creativity. We all had a fantastic time and can’t wait to share more about our adventure with everyone. Be sure to take a look at the photos to see all the fun we had!
Harvest Festival
On Monday 7th October, the Prep School had a visit from the Salvation Army, to talk to Prep School pupils about the importance of valuing food and how we can be sustainable by not wasting it. It was really moving to hear to Salvation Army talking about people in our local community who do not have enough food to eat. There is a charity donation link on Teams, in case any parents or families would like to contribute any money towards helping the local foodbank. Prep School pupils learnt about how even seemingly every day items can go on long journeys and take a lot of energy and effort to produce. To help us to understand this, we learnt about how a tin of sweetcorn is made, where it comes from and all the different people that are involved in making it. We will never look at a tin of sweetcorn the same way again!

Year 6 Leadership Roles
On 4th October, Year 6 were given their leadership roles. Everyone in Year 6 received a role which was linked to their interests, hobbies and passions. In order to achieve these positions, we had to write an application for the three roles we wanted to apply for. We submitted them to Miss McHenry and waited in suspense!
Finally, after what felt like years, the big day arrived! When we were walking into the hall we felt shivers up our spine (even Amelia, who was having to listen on Teams!). All of Year 6 sat down together in Hayes Hall, whilst the rest of the school joined us remotely to listen to the big announcement. When our names were called, we found out our roles, stood up and shook Miss Musgrove’s hand and received our badges, to big rounds of applause (and some screams…).
It was an amazing and magical moment that we will never forget.
As Head Girl and Deputy Head Girl, we will work together with the Prep School Leadership Team: Mia, Alice, Zara, Hemya, Ellyse, Veya and Alayna. Some of our responsibilities include helping Miss Musgrove run Town Hall meetings, helping with hot chocolate meetings and helping younger pupils to achieve their ‘Personal Best’ goals. We are going to use our Superpowers of collaboration, empathy and perseverance to help our school and be good role models to our peers.
Next week, we will introduce some of the other Year 6 leaders, who will tell you about their special roles.
Kind regards,
Amelia SG and Dharhini
