On the 7th of March, 13 of our Sutton High students, all very passionate about languages, went to Sydenham High School to take part in the annual GDST MFL Language Festival. The aim was to bring together GDST schools to celebrate languages and complete various MFL activities. Firstly, there were two Year 11 reader leaders who presented a Spanish poem about the Joy of Life. We then had the privilege of receiving a talk from Keynote Speaker Jorje Garriz from Romancero Books, an online bookstore based in London that exclusively promotes Spanish and Latin American works. Other Year 11 speakers included our own Gabrielle, who talked about reading Le Petit Prince.
Year 7’s then took part in the Spelling Bee Competition. Year 8’s participated in stimulating language games and Year 9’s performed and recited poems in Italian, Spanish, French and German. Year 10’s were put in groups and performed an act in their respective languages. Towards the end of the day we all participated in a Kahoot on General Knowledge about languages, including music, books etc. Olivia in Year 8 won the Kahoot for our school and displayed immense courage! We then had the prize giving ceremony when we got to celebrate our hard work and attempts in our GDST community. We all had an enlightening day filled with joy and learning.
