LRC
Our Learning Resources Centre is open from 7.30am to 6.30pm every day, to all our girls from across the year groups. There are two distinct spaces; you first enter the Library section which provides a calm area for quiet reading and independent study, this leads through to the LRC, a more dynamic area which is well-equipped with computers and a photocopier, where you can work collaboratively. There is no need to book into the LRC – you can use it during break-time, lunch, and before/after school.
The Library area houses our books. We have an excellent collection of Fiction books to suit all readers and a great selection of Non-Fiction books to support academic study and research. The library area is divided into sections for different year groups which are clearly labelled, and the books themselves have colour coded stickers. There is also a designated library for Neurodiversity and another for Careers. You can see which books are available in the library whether at home or school, via our online Library catalogue-Oliver, and also access eBook and Audiobook titles, if that is your preferred reading format.
Both areas of the LRC are very popular spaces in which to explore new topics and creative activities. Our three Librarians, Mrs Cox, Mrs Upson, and Miss Teixeira are on hand to help and assist with research/studying or choosing reading material. Throughout the year, themed craft and reading-related activities are organized in the library at lunchtime. The Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Calendar 2023, informs our Library displays, activities and discussion. On World Book Day, the LRC is a central focus of book quizzes, games and fun activities. Student Librarians
You can also apply to become a Student Librarian. We recruit student librarians across all year groups this includes a volunteering role for the DofE. You’ll be part of a team running the library – issuing, returning, and shelving books, helping others use the library, promoting the library and books, creating displays, using the computers. Full training is provided. This is a fantastic role for anyone who enjoys reading and helping others, anyone who is reliable, friendly and hard-working, and confident in ordering items alphabetically and numerically.
