Dancing Through Life! – Sutton High’s Annual Dance Show, March 13th 2025

Last Thursday, the 13th March 2025, students from Year 7 to Year 13 ‘wowed’ their audience with their impressive dance routines in this years fabulous Dance Show. The show was an hour-long, every minute of which was top class entertainment; adorable, upbeat, emotional and powerful – each dance had it’s own unique charm. A huge congratulations to all of the girls for all their efforts and persistence with their rehearsals, and to the fabulous Miss Lee, for her beautiful choreography and organisation, the show would not have been possible without her!

Here’s what the girls have to say…

“On Thursday 13th of March, we took part in the dance show, alongside 120 other dancers ranging from years 7 to sixth form. Each dance was carefully put together by our amazing dance teacher, Miss Lee, who worked incredibly hard to create such a diverse and inclusive array of dances. Alongside this, some of our upper school dancers (Jemima, Isla, Niamh, Ruby, Rosie, Maddie and Qaylah) produced their own unique routines, exploring styles from jazz to commercial.

We started learning the dances back in September, with each year group attending a weekly hour-long session, developing their 2 routines. Performance dance took place on Friday mornings, where Miss Lee selected a small group of highly skilled dancers from each year group, who would perform an advanced contemporary routine. The song for this routine was ‘Fire on Fire’, providing an emotional and powerful dance. It highlighted our girls’ strong collaboration, whilst allowing others to step into the spotlight. Additionally, the introduction of GCSE Dance last year, resulted in us having 2 expectational set pieces in the show, which truly showcased the girls’ talent. The year 10 piece was called ‘A Linha Curva’ and took inspiration from the Brazilian culture, with the focus of contrasting the lines of formations and the curves of movement. The year 11 piece was called ‘Shadows’, emphasising the power of sisterhood, overcoming an outside barrier.

On behalf of those taking part, and watching, the dance show is always a highlight within the school year. With one in five girls involved in this production, it emphasises Sutton’s inclusivity, talent and strong bonds between girls of all ages. As sixth formers, we have taken part in many dance shows over the years. This has allowed us to be experimental with our dance styles, grow in confidence and form a lifelong appreciation for dance itself, and the time and effort it takes to produce such a joyful performance.

None of this would have been possible without the lighting and tech team, who’s control over the sound and lighting really did elevate our performances, providing atmosphere and an engaging experience.

It truly was a massive success, and we cannot wait for next year!” – Jemima Fyfield & Isla Martin (Year 12)
