Checkmate for Alice and her outstanding achievements in chess
We have some exciting news about Alice (Y3), and her outstanding achievements in chess. This is her first year competing in chess tournaments, and she has already made remarkable progress. Alice has qualified for the UK Chess Challenge Grand Finale (Terafinal), the most prestigious junior chess competition in the UK, which will take place at Blenheim Palace on October 12-13. The UK Chess Challenge begins each April and progresses through three nation-wide stages before reaching the Grand Finale. Only 12 players from each year group qualify—of which only four are girls.
Throughout the competition, Alice has chosen to proudly represent Sutton High School, deeply inspired by the school’s spirit and community. It has been wonderful to see her grow, both as a player and as a representative of the school.
In addition, last weekend Alice participated in the UK Challenge event, a precursor to the Grand Finale, and achieved 2nd place among the girls—missing the top spot by just half a point. We are incredibly proud of her achievements and dedication to the chess.
