Year 12 Politics Students visit Parliament and the Supreme Court

On a recent visit to Parliament and the Supreme Court, Year 12 A Level Politics students were afforded a rare opportunity to gain an in-depth understanding of the UK’s political and legal systems. The students enjoyed a private tour of both institutions, providing them with invaluable insights into the workings of our democracy and judiciary. At Parliament, they observed the grandeur of the House of Commons and House of Lords, while at the Supreme Court, they learned about the pivotal role it plays in interpreting and upholding the law.

In addition to the tours, the students attended a careers fair, which further broadened their understanding of potential career paths in Parliament. The highlight of the trip was meeting Luke Taylor, the new MP for Sutton and Cheam, who graciously spent 45 minutes answering questions about the political process and his role as an MP.

The day was made even more memorable by enjoying gyros for lunch, which sparked a newfound love for Greek cuisine! This trip not only enriched students’ academic knowledge but also inspired a deeper appreciation of the vital functions these institutions serve in British society.
