The best preparation for English is to read books that will challenge you, to explore different types of text (including non-fiction) and to practise writing as often as possible and in many forms (poetry, prose, letters).

We are on the doorstep of literary greatness. The following are excellent places to visit: Jane Austen House (Chawton), Charles Dickens Museum (London), John Keats House (Hampstead Village), The Globe Theatre, Poet’s Corner (Westminster Abbey), The British Library, Bloomsbury Square and Gardens, Daunt bookshop (Marleybone), Cavendish Square (real setting for the fictional characters of Jekyll and Hyde) and Baker Street (real street for the fictional character of Sherlock Holmes).
