Welcome to Year 10
I am looking forward to welcoming you on your journey into Year 10.
You are no longer the youngest pupils in the Senior School and, as such, we expect you to be role models for the younger years, setting a good example
of behaviour and commitment to school activities. In the Pastoral Hub, we have responsibility for the welfare, academic progress and conduct of all students, as well as working with our wonderful tutors, whose rich collective experience is invaluable in encouraging each pupil to achieve her potential. As your first point of contact, the tutors play a pivotal role in your well-being. We will all be helping you to make decisions this year about your academic strengths.
As I am sure you are aware, Sutton High offers a wide range of co-curricular opportunities through clubs during lunchtime and after School, and we encourage you to participate in as many as you can. Such clubs enable you to gain a wealth of experience from a varied range of activities and mix in a wider circle of people, which we hope will broaden your horizons. Year 10 is a time when new friendships can develop and dynamics can change as you move towards your GCSE years, so clubs are a great way to widen your friendship group.
My advice as you enter Year 10 is to be courageous. Courage is a very important value at Sutton High School, so you should be brave – try new experiences, step out of your comfort zone, discover new passions, take chances and make mistakes. Everyone makes mistakes and they are a great opportunity to learn and move forward with strength.
With enthusiasm, resilience, hard work and a positive attitude to learning, as a team, you can reach your potential and achieve more than you dreamed of.
Wishing you all a fantastic academic year ahead.
Marie Brandon
