Former A Level student gives an online talk to Germanists in Years 10 & 12

It’s always helpful when our pupils can benefit from each other’s experiences.  A great example of this was recently when former pupil and German A Level student, Annie S, spoke to our current Year 10 and 12 Germanists about what it is like to study German at university.  Annie is completing the third year of her degree course in German and Spanish at Leeds University.  She was able to pick up Spanish from scratch there, and is loving learning it alongside German.  She explained to us that Leeds is unusual in that their Modern Languages students go abroad, not only for the standard stint in their third year, but for an additional semester in their second year, if they are studying two languages.  Annie spent six months in Munich last academic year, and is now in Valencia for a whole year.  She is absolutely loving her time abroad, and her enthusiasm lit up our room.  As Annie is currently abroad, we were grateful to see her online.  The girls had plenty of opportunity to ask questions about life in our Sixth Form, what it’s like being at university, what the time abroad entails and what a languages degree course consists of.  Thank you, Annie, for keeping in touch with us.  Good luck with your forthcoming final year at Leeds and your plans beyond that!
