Sustainability at Sutton – Issue 4

At Sutton High we are continually seeking ways to look at and convey important information about our Earth’s resources, our impact on the environment and important mitigation measures. If we do not know what the problem is, it is hard to find solutions.

To that end, many of the students were surprised when the answers were revealed to the following questions. Are you ready to play, …. If this is the question, what is the answer*?

1. How many “Earths” are we currently using to maintain our current way of life?
2. How many plastic drinking bottles are purchased every minute?
3. How many litres of water does it take to make a single pair of jeans – from the production of the cotton to the delivery of the final product to the store?
4. How much water is saved by recycling 1 tonne of paper?
5. On average, how many tonnes of food waste is produced in English schools each week?
6. How many Londoners die of air pollution each year?

*Hint* The answers are upside down!
