The Sutton High team of Leia, Elaine and Ritwika played the National Finals last weekend.
It was a big task to qualify for the event with 53 teams from the South battling it out for 6 of the 10 places in January. Nine games were played in total and so it was a huge commitment from the girls and their families. The girls did amazingly well, and built on the success of qualifying last year.
Sutton came 6th out of 10 in the incredibly strong field.

Ritwika scored an impressive 6 out of 9 on board 3 and has a tremendous future in chess as she is still U-8 in the U-11 event!
Leia and Elaine held their own against established players and are both often representing their clubs, Epsom and Richmond, respectively. Additionally, Ritwika played in the Surrey U-9 team in March, which finished 3rd to qualify for the National Finals. Well done girls!
