World Book Day Celebrations
March has been an exciting month for our school library, filled with engaging activities and enthusiastic participation from students and staff alike. We kicked off the month with vibrant World Book Day (WBD) celebrations on March 5th and 6th. The library was transformed into a hub of book-themed games, including Giant O&X inspired by Malorie Blackman’s series, Book Scrabble, Matching Book Pairs, Guess the Book, and a Book Balancing Relay. The excitement was palpable as students built book towers and competed in various challenges, earning house points for their participation.
Throughout the week of March 10th, we continued the literary fun with daily lunchtime activities. The English Department organised ‘Literary Pairs’ on Monday, followed by ‘Match the Selfie to the Shelfie’ on Tuesday, ‘Book Lanyard Hunt’ on Wednesday, and ‘Guess Who is Reading This Book’ on Thursday, all orchestrated by our dedicated DofE Library Volunteers. These activities required staff participation, with staff wearing lanyards, sharing pictures of their bookshelves, discussing the books they are currently reading, their favourite books, and offering recommendations. These activities not only fostered a love for reading but also brought our school community closer together.
International Women’s Day in the Library
On International Women’s Day, March 8th, students and staff in the library came together to celebrate and demonstrate their strength. Staff showcased their roles as librarians and EdTech advocates, while students highlighted their strength through book characters and their love for gaming. It was a wonderful display of empowerment and community spirit. We are excited to share some pictures capturing these inspiring moments.
Year 7 Careers Interviews in the Library
During the second week commencing March 10th , our library played a pivotal role for the Year 7 Careers Interviews. From March 10th onwards, Year 7 students had the opportunity to interview various members of staff during their PSR, delving into their career journeys, qualifications, job responsibilities, and future aspirations. The interviews were conducted in the library’s four alcoves, with students divided into groups and staff rotating between tables. This setup provided a focused and engaging environment for insightful conversations. The students asked thoughtful questions about the highlights and challenges of the staff’s jobs, gaining valuable insights into different career paths. We are excited to share some pictures capturing these engaging sessions.
Careers Fair in the Library
On Wednesday, March 19th, our library hosted the biennial Careers Fair, welcoming 16 distinguished delegates from various sectors. These delegates shared their career journeys, qualifications, and passion for their roles, providing invaluable insights to our students. The fair was open to all Year 9-13 students, offering a unique opportunity to engage with professionals and explore diverse career paths. To accommodate this fantastic event, the library was closed for usual activities. We are excited to share some pictures capturing the highlights of the Careers Fair.
Neurodiversity Week in the Library
Last week, we celebrated Neurodiversity Week in the Senior Library by encouraging students to explore a diverse range of book titles and enriching our collection with books and alternative reading formats. These efforts aim to support reading for pleasure and academic progression, ensuring that our library is inclusive and accessible to all. We are proud to foster an environment where every student can find joy and success in reading through our enriched collection of books.
