Sutton High charity week donations fund Sutton Women’s Centre initiatives
During charity week earlier this year the Student Leadership Team drove activities raising almost £3000 to support Sutton Women’s Centre. We recently received an update and were delighted to hear how the funds had been spent.
Some of the funds were invested in a photography exhibition showcasing local inspirational women. This was very well received and the photos were displayed in Oru and in Sutton library, as well as our joint International Women’s Day event with SACCO.
The remaining funds were used to run an ‘Into the Light’ course for some of their service users. This is a 10 week psychoeducational course for women who have experienced childhood sexual abuse. This was the first time they were able to run this programme and it proved extremely successful and the women who attended have given very positive feedback. We have also set up a monthly support group for participants, so that they can continue to feel that their voices are being heard.
This donation has made a huge difference to those women, some of whom have never been able to tell their story before.
